Serge Tremblay
Founder of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge’s Message
Leucan’s Shaved Head Challenge has reached unprecedented heights of support and popularity among the public – and all of it has been for the benefit of children with cancer.
I still remember that moment in 2001, when I first put my hair on the chopping block, and as my locks were falling to the floor, I caught the expressions on the faces of Naomie and her parents. I could tell that they knew that my gesture was a significant one, which represented hope for this family and their young daughter as she fought this terrible illness. That particular moment was significant for me, as I immediately got to work to make sure we could spread this act of solidarity into the public arena, all for the benefit of Leucan’s families.
We have had an incredible journey since that first Challenge, held in the Montérégie in 2001. The Shaved Head Challenge is now held in 14 regions and 26 locations throughout Quebec.
Thank you to all the courageous people who have taken the Challenge, and to all of you who have supported Leucan. Your gestures contribute to changing the lives of children who bravely are fighting cancer. Serge Tremblay
